Publication of the Polis method for Bohairic Coptic

We are happy to share with you news on two new publications of the Polis method for Coptic.

The first work is an exploratory translation of a book created at the Polis Institute and titled One, Two, Three. 1, 2, 3. This book was crafted for the instruction of various languages with the Polis method. The Coptic version, called ⲟⲩⲁⲓ ⲥⲛⲁⲩ ϣⲟⲙⲧ includes a translation of the original layout into Coptic. Slight modifications were made to present Coptic grammar and syntax better. We see this publication as a first step in which we translated many dialogues and topics into Coptic. In our next publications, we create more detailed lesson plans and “break down” the materials first presented in this book.

The second book, published in February 2024, is titled: ‘ϯⲃⲁⲕⲓ,’ in English ‘The Town.’
Its title is a translation of the ‘Polis’ method for ancient Greek, translated also to Latin (‘Forum.’) It offers a slower, step-by-step introduction to reading Coptic and conversing with the comics translated into Coptic; we added exercises and classroom activities based on the experience of using the method in the classroom.

The first two units of the method, are published in ϯⲃⲁⲕⲓ (ti-baki). Each unit includes easy imperatives and basic conversations as well as vocabulary lists, and lesson plans that can be used to instruct the content in the classroom.

The book is available for purchase via the Polis Institute Press.
